LADBROKE GROVE // LONDON
GARDEN STUDIO
Locus Design was appointed to design a new garden studio as part of the relandscaping of an existing garden for this large family townhouse in Ladbroke Grove, London. The brief required the creation of new garden ‘oasis’ incorporating new external terraces, an integrated seating area and a new contemporary studio building to function as a family ‘escape’ den.
Our response was to treat all these new spaces as both a visible and functional extension of the existing indoor ‘living’ spaces which overlook the rear garden through a double height glazed façade. The new studio, positioned at the very end of the garden, in turn looks back towards the main house, forming a strong visual connection to the existing ‘living’ spaces.
The new studio has also been designed within existing permitted development constraints whilst still aiming to make optimum use of a very restricted and difficult to access site. The use of charred black timber cladding externally together and birch plywood panelling to the interior, provide both a low maintenance but elegant and cosy new living space for the family to enjoy all year round.
